Our Story

We are two mothers and community psychologists who work together in synchrony, support each other, and get the best out of one another. We both studied psychology at The American University in Cairo (AUC), and we met during completing our masters of Arts in Community Psychology at AUC, where we learned a lot of collaborative, participatory, and evidence-based approaches and tools that we felt should be utilized. After working together on several projects, in March 2019, we decided to co-found The Community Hub. In a cafe in Heliopolis, Cairo, we stayed for days planning, strategizing, dreaming, and discussing our core values, our edge, and our aspirations. With our dedicated team and persistent clients and partners, we were able to implement interesting projects in Egypt and the MENA Region.

Values

  • Community Collaboration The essence of our work is tocollaborate with community members to strengthen our relationship with them andgain their trust. We believe that adopting a strength-based approach will allowindividuals and institutions to work more efficiently and sustain the changethey create in their community.
  • Human Diversity and Inclusion We respect individualuniqueness and highlight the importance of understanding the diversities withincommunities to ensure the right of people to be different while holdinginstitutions and ourselves accountable to provide support to ensure inclusion.
  • Wellbeing Working with individuals to promote change and to encourage collaborative decision-making ,Creating an inclusive and participatory environment.
  • Action Oriented Research Our work is based on empirical, evidence-based, and actionable research, which ensures that social issues are taken in context based on systematic data. We use interactive tools that encourage participation and empowerment of community members, leading to actual change in program design, policies, and strategies.

Approaches

  • Asset-Based Community engagement and intervention approach that builds on the assets that are existing. This approach realizes the number of members we work with and engages them together while addressing the challenges faced, as well as using effective tools, including appreciative inquiry and asset mapping.
  • Participatory The active involvement and participation of stakeholders throughout the whole process of any program using effective methods such as photovoice to create community ownership.
  • Collaborative This approach is based on collective research, which addresses problematic communal issues through enacting change. It encourages collaboration between stakeholders to solve social issues and challenges the unequal distribution of power stemming from differences in gender, socioeconomic background, race, religion, and/or disability using tools such as Appreciative Inquiry.
